So, the title is about the new Defender, but there isn’t so much of a picture of it until the very end . Its in reality, a love letter to the Land Rover brand, going through their notable models, and full of driving, historic footage, and interviews. They show how the models have improved, and why despite those improvements, people cling to the old versions. While the host clearly loves Land Rovers, he is open about their problems, in particular with the last generation Defender.

Its long at 2 hours and 15 minutes, but its worth having on in the background as you work or whatnot. Let me know what you guys think.

Loved it, he pretty much sums up my thoughts on it all. E specially when he talks about how the old Defender was “nice to visit on holiday, but not great to live in” as shown in the sales figures below.

Also, the black Defender he gets out of in the beginning of the video is my friends truck so I may be a bit biased towards the whole thing :).

H is off hand comments about arm room, hitting his head, lack of an adequate heater, etc. says a lot more about the Defender than his actual narration. I really liked the video overall.

That is a gorgeous truck. Faults and all, I wish we could get them in the US. It would fit the same niche as the Wrangler, and even have the same pedigree. However, I can absolutely understand why sales are what they are.

You can get them in the US, you’re just paying $40k on a 30 year old truck... If anything being sold here in the US would have delayed the inevitable reality of the situation. If you stick a YJ and a JK next to each other you can tell the difference almost immediately, you stick a 2 00Tdi and a Td5 next to each other and you kinda go “okay they’re the same” so people would never buy another one new and just get a used one because they’re essentially the same truck.

But we can get the old Defender in the US, in vintage form as imports as ones that were originally sold in the US market :

And they are likely not much different than recent versions, as per the video.

There are a few under $40k nationwide, but most are $50k and higher. I like them, but not that much. If they were even priced like gwagons, where you could get a 99-01 for around $30k, it wouldn’t be so bad.

They’re not that different, aside from being wildly overpriced. Honestly, i’d love a series land rover to play around with on the weekends. They’re relatively affordable too, since they were exported here for more than a couple of years.

Those aren’t Defenders though, those are Land Rover 110's and Land Rover 90's. That’s what I mean about them essentially being the same truck through out the years. Goes like this:

1948-1958 - Land Rover Series 1

1958-1961 - Land Rover Series 2

1961-1971 - Land Rover Series 2A

1971-1985 - Land Rover Series 3

1985-1991 - Land Rover 90/110/127

1991-2016 - Land Rover Defender.
